Federal lawmaker Olatoye ‘Sugar’ Temitope shot dead during election violence in Oyo State

Honourable Temitope ‘Sugar’ Olatoye, a serving federal lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency of Oyo State, is dead.

Olatoye was shot by suspected thugs in Elesu village in Ward 13, Lalupon, Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Saturday evening.

Toye Akinrilola, spokesperson of the University College Hospital (UCH), confirmed that Olatoye was rushed to the hospital’s facility and was in a critical condition when he was brought in.

Doctors at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) battled to save his life but he eventually passed on.

Confirming his death, speaker of the Federal house of representatives, Yakubu Dogara tweeted, ‘I received with shock, the sad and distressing news of the assassination of my brother and colleague, Hon. Olatoye Temitope Sugar, in Oyo State today. The murder of Hon Sugar in election violence today is primitive, wicked, inhumane, barbaric and highly condemnable’.
